A man on camelback passes through an arched entrance in the town walls in this charming watercolour by German-British artist Carl Haag (1820–1915). Haag travelled frequently in the Middle East, often painting the architecture and people he encountered on his journeys. Beyond the walls, a spire, domed roof, and lush palm trees are visible. The work is signed to the lower right and is handsomely presented in a gilt frame with a washline mount. On paper.

Signs of wear consistent with age including light discolouration and foxing to the paper. Marks and scuffs to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
