Description

A fine engraving by Carl Gottlieb Guttenberg (1743-1792) after Benjamin West's (1738-1820) painting, 'The Death of General Wolfe'. The artwork commemorates the 1759 Battle of Quebec, where General James Wolfe died at the moment of victory. Signed in plate to the lower right. Beautifully presented in a gilt frame with a gold wash line mount. On paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration and foxing to the paper. A small abrasion is noted to the upper left corner of the artwork. Light dirtying to the mount. Minor wear to the frame, including small chips to the corners.
