Description
C.L. Robertson - Original 19th Century Graphite Drawing. Inscribed. The drawing spans across a double page spread from the sketchbook. On the reverse there is an additional drawing inscribed "South Bank of Tagus opposite Lisbon", and a sketch of a boat. Unsigned. In fine condition. It seems likely that CL Robertson was in the British Royal Navy, as his drawings include scenes on board the HMS Euphrates and HMS Malabar (both launched in 1866). This would explain his access to scenes and views as far afield as the Yemen, Brazil, Tunisia and Pakistan. His graphite drawings are beautifully observed, especially his harbour scenes and more detailed landscapes.Size
