C.L. Robertson - Original 19th Century Graphite Drawing. On blue paper. From a sketchbook, signed C L Robertson on the inner cover. Some of the drawings are inscribed "Obock, Red Sea", suggesting that all the drawings in the sketchbook are likely to be in this area. Unsigned. In fine condition.It seems likely that CL Robertson was in the British Royal Navy, as his drawings include scenes on board the HMS Euphrates and HMS Malabar (both launched in 1866). This would explain his access to scenes and views as far afield as the Yemen, Brazil, Tunisia and Pakistan. His graphite drawings are beautifully observed, especially his harbour scenes and more detailed landscapes.
