A beautiful Georgian double portrait full of tenderness and love, showing an elegant young woman with ringletted hair and a fine gown with embroidered sash. She is holding her rosy cheeked son close with one arm. The resemblance between mother and son is very clear as is the tender connection they both share. A soft sunset can be seen out of a window to the right. The painting is unsigned and presented in a fine 19th Century gilt frame with swept rail and corners featuring a hatched cove with acanthus leaf molding and floral cartouches. The frame is finished with an internal gilt slip. On copper or other metal substrate.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is an area of abrasion to the paint at the upper left corner and some small losses at the outer edges. The frame has some areas of restoration and a contemporary gilt finish.
