Brian William

The primacy of colour is a continual element throughout the work of Welsh artist Brian William. Born in Cardiff in 1957, he trained as a painter and decorator, following in his grandfather’s footsteps. Although largely self-taught, he began his interest in art from a very early age. Influenced without a doubt by the major impressionist artists of the 20th Century, including Van Gogh, Monet and Klimt, William is particularly inspired by the pioneering Swiss painter Cuno Amiet. This influence can be seen readily, in his bold use of contrasting lines, and an overall harmony of composition.

William began producing more joyful work after the first lockdown in 2020, painting in his own quiet garden studio that quickly became his art sanctuary, on an easel that was previously owned by the well-known artist Neil Forster. This collection includes recent vivid and radiant still life works, celebrating florals in both the home and garden.
