Artist Biography

Brian Midlane was a 20th-century Australian expressionist, predominantly focusing upon portraiture and cityscapes. Often raw, his works capture subdued beauties in a silent and pure manner. Unappreciated in Australia, Brian and his wife, Mollie Paxton, sought fame in London, where their work was widely exhibited and sold.

He was the runner up for the Archibald Prize in 1946 and has sold at various established auction houses across the UK, including Christie's and Bonhams. Whilst undervalued in Australia, he did exhibit at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in the 1940s.
