A characterful study of a street performer singing and playing a guitar by German artist Bernhard Gauer (1882-1955). Signed to the upper right. Well presented in a gilt frame. On board.

Condition

Some discolouration to the varnish and some small abrasions, but the condition is good overall. Light wear to the frame.

Artist Biography

Bernhard Gauer (1882-1955) was a German painter born in Trier. He also produced mosaics and stained glass windows. He attended the Munich Academy, before continuing his studies in Italy. He would eventually settle in Düsseldorf, where he joined the Malkasten artist association and served as chairman of the Düsseldorf Artists' Association.
