A fine limited edition lithograph, showing a woman sitting on the edge of her bed with light casting her face into shadow. Signed and numbered (49/50) in graphite to the lower edge. Presented in a narrow gilt-effect frame with card mount. On paper.

Condition

The print is in very good condition. Some light scratches visible to the gilt-effect frame.

Artist Biography

Bernard Dunstan was born in Teddington, Middlesex in 1920. He studied at Byam Shaw School of Art under Ernest Jackson (1939) and at the Slade School of Art (1939-41). He went on to teach at the West of England School of Art in Bristol, Camberwell School of Art, Byam Shaw School of Art, Ravensbourne Art College and City and Guilds of London Art School. Dunstan exhibited regularly with Roland, Browse and Delbanco, London with Agnew's, London, since 1972 and with Stremmel Gallery, Nevada, USA, since 1981. He also exhibited annually in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the New English Art Club, and his work is held in many private collections. Dunstan was elected Royal Academician in 1968, and was President of the Royal West of England Academy from 1979 to 1984. He has written several books on painting, including Learning to Paint and Painting Methods of the Impressionists. Known for his figurative work and new impressionist style Dunstan's work owes much to the Sickert tradition. His domestic interiors and informal compositional approach, quietly captures the intimacy of a solitary moment.
