Description
A delightful 19th-century-style portrait of a gentleman wearing a fur hat and smoking a traditional clay pipe. The sitter is captured with a relaxed, contemplative expression, while touches of expressive brushwork lend the work a lively, painterly quality. Combining careful portraiture with a more spontaneous handling of paint, the work has the character of a charming period study and a strong sense of 19th-century portraiture. Signed lower left. On panel.Condition
Maintains a desirable character and patina. Minor surface marks and abrasions. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. Small chips and indentations to the frame. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
