John Benjamin Ottewell was a watercolour landscape painter born in Streatham, Surrey, (now London) the son of a gardener. Many of Ottewell's watercolours depict the Grampian Highlands and the area in and around Balmoral and an example is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum. His death was recorded in Bath, Somerset. He showed at the Grosvenor Gallery, New Gallery, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and Walker Art Gallery.
