The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a mark to the glazing at the lower edge, some scuffs and scratches to the frame, and some gapping between the frame and mount at the left edge. Overall well-presented and in good condition.

Benjamin David Sigmund (1857-1947) was an artist born in London. Where he received his art training is not known and he does not appear on any census as 'Artist' or similar until 1881 when he was living in Old Street, Islington. He married in Barnstaple, Devon, in 1885 and lived in Slough, Folkestone, and Barnstaple where his death was recorded. He was a prolific exhibitor and showed at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Dudley Gallery, Dowdeswell and Dowdeswell, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, and Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour.
