Basil Jonzen (1913-1967) - Original 1952 Oil. Attributed verso. Paint applied thickly with Impasto technique. In substantial gilt frame. On canvas board. Unsigned. In fine condition.Basil Jonzen (1913-1967) was a well known painter of landscapes, still lifes and portraits, mainly in oils. He studied art under Bernard Meninsky at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. Early in his career he established a successful relationship with The Redfern Gallery in London who arranged during the 1930s for him to travel to France, mainland Spain, and the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands to paint. Jonzen also showed with the New English Art Club from 1933, the Royal Academy from 1944, with the Royal Society of British Artists, and the Arthur Tooth & Son Gallery in London. He was married to the well known sculptor Karin Jonzen (1914-1998) and after World War II they ran a successful weekend art gallery at their home in South Kensington. Basil Jonzen’s work is held in a number of public collections, including The Arts Council, Bradford Art Gallery & Museums, and Brighton & Hove Art Galleries
