B. R. After Landseer - Framed 1909 Oil A Quiet Pipe
Description
A wonderful copy of Edwin Landseer's 'A Quiet Pipe', a piece created by the prolific 19th century artist for a Pears Soap advertising campaign. Landseer's portrayal of animals was unrivalled during his time, a talent that has been well-imitated by the artist. Signed and dated. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is surface dirt to the top of the canvas where the varnish ends. There is cracking to the mouldings of the gilt frame and some widening of the joints and revealing a small gap between the frame and top of the canvas. Inspection under UV light reveals signs of restoration.
