Axel Herman Haig (1835-1921) - Early 20th Century Etching St Mark's Cathedral

Description

An atmospheric etching of the interior of St Mark's Cathedral in Venice. Strong, shafting light picks out the pulpit and the shadowy figures in the foreground give scale to the size of the cathedral. The artist has monogrammed within the plate and signed in pencil outside of the plate. There is an inscription of the publisher's date and address at the top of the plate and the original copyright at the bottom. The etching is on wove laid to board. Signed. On Wove Laid To Board.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Slight foxing outside the plate lines and mount burn just visible at the edges of the board.
