The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a large amount of dried glue around all four sides of the engraving where a previous mount has been stuck down however it does not encroach beyond the plate lines.There is visible mount burn and one or two foxing spots.

Axel Herman Haig was born in Katthammarsvik, Sweden on 19 November 1835 and commenced his training studying shipbuilding in Karlskrona from 1850 to 1856. The following year he moved to Glasgow where he joined shipbuilders Lawrende Hill & Co, but shortly thereafter he left for London. There he studied architecture under Ewan Christian and later under William Burges, who inspired his interest in Gothic architecture. Haig began etching in the late 1870s with the intention of illustrating a book on the medieval architecture of Scotland. He contributed illustrations to many English journals, received a medal for his etchings at the Paris Salon of 1882 and was made an honorary member of the Swedish Royal Academy. He was also a member of the Royal Academy of Painter-Etchers in London and from 1903 a member of the Art Workers Guild. He died on 23 August 1921.
