There is some minor debris beneath the glazing, primarily to the lower edge, and some mild scuffs to the frame. Overall in very good condition.

Aubrey R. Phillips RWA (1920-2005) was a landscape painter in pastel, watercolour, and oil born in Astley, Worcestershire. He studied at Stourbridge College of Art and Kidderminster School of Art under Cyril Lavenstein. Phillips was a member of the Royal West of England Academy, the Pastel Society, Watercolour Society of Wales, and the Armed Forces Art Society and published books and videos on art techniques. He also showed at the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Cambrian Academy and at the Paris Salon where he was a Gold Medal winner in 1966. He was influenced by Turner and the Impressionists, and his favoured places to paint were the Malvern Hills, the Black Mountains, and northern Scotland.
Phillips held a solo exhibition of the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth and also showed solo at the Timaeus Gallery, Birmingham in 1981 and the Patricia Wells Gallery, Thornbury near Bristol in 1988. Examples of his work are in the collection of Warwick University. Phillips taught at Malvern College of Art for 20 years and also at Bournville School of Art, Birmingham.
