Description

A family journeys along a rugged riverside track, passing resting cattle, donkeys, and sheep in this charming landscape. Although the work is unsigned, a label affixed to the frame attributes it to Peter La Cave (fl. 1769 to 1816) and dates it to 1800. It is well presented in a gilt frame with foliate ornament and a lamb's tongue running pattern. On panel.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. A horizontal split across the board has been repaired, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Scuffs, stable cracking, and small losses to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
