An old inscription on the reverse attributed this painting to William Lionel Clause and reads 'From a Collection of Works'. There is also an old label attributing this painting to Clause. The painting has details in pencil and is well presented in a simple gilt frame. Unsigned. On wove.

Artist Biography

William Lionel Clause (1887-1946) was born in Lancashire and studies at the Slade School of Art under Henry Tonks and Frederick Brown, He exhibited at the New English Art Club and the International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Gravers - he was also a member of the Chelsea Art Club.
