Attributed to the painter W.H. Rooke, an impressive 19th Century oil painting of Aira Force, Glenridding in Cumbria. The use of impasto gives a dynamism to the flowing water which creates an interesting focal point within the composition. Well presented in a dark wood frame with ornamental detail. Unsigned. On canvas.
Condition
Inspection under UV light reveals a small tear to the central edge of the canvas which has been repaired and retouched. There is also craquelure visible across the paintwork and some light scuffing to the frame. The painting is slightly too small in the frame, but only my a few millimeters.
