Artist Biography
Thomas Webster was a British painter of genre scenes of school and village life, many of which became popular through prints. Webster was born in Pimlico, London. His father was a member of the household of George III. Having shown an aptitude for music, he became a chorister. However, he abandoned music for painting, and in 1821 was admitted as a student at the Royal Academy. Webster was elected an associate of the Royal Academy in 1840, and a full member in 1846. The last thirty years of his life were spent at the artists' colony in Cranbrook, Kent.
