An impressive pen and ink drawing depicting a riverside study with a lone rower in the centre of the composition. The impressionistic line and textured cross-hatching beautifully captures the dynamic movement of the water.
Having compared this signature with other works by the artist we cannot guarantee his authorship due to our unfamiliarity with Vauthier's work. However the skill and attention to form is surely that of a professional artist and the subject matter is aligned with Vauthiers interests directly.

French artist Pierre Louis Léger Vauthier was a pupil of Maxime Lalanne. He exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1874 and became a member of the Société des Artistes Français from 1883. A painter of landscape scenes and based in around Paris, he was made a Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur in 1895.
