Description

A man sits in a chair, a jug in one hand and a pipe in the other, with a glass of whisky resting on the barrel at his side in this characterful genre scene. Attributed to Michel-Nicolas Lepicie (1735-1784) on a label affixed to the reverse of the panel. Well presented in a swept gilt-effect frame. Unsigned. On panel.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration, surface dirt, and craquelure. 9 cm crack to the upper right. Areas of overpainting. Slight gap between the left and right edges of the panel and the inner edges of the frame. Light wear to the frame.
