Artist Biography
Painter born in London, to a German-born father who worked as a timber merchant. The 1911 census shows that 17 people, 16 with the surname Boss living in a single house in Fitzroy Square, his father was obviously a man of means. Boss studied at the nearby Slade School and is also believed to have attended Heatherley's School of Fine Art, 1908-11 and at the Royal Academy Schools until 1916. He subsequently worked primarily as a portrait painter and exhibited at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Royal Academy, ISSPG, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. Boss was a member of the London Sketch Club and the Chelsea Arts Club. A fine portrait by Boss is held by the Royal Air Force Museum. Boss lived in London and was a member of the Chelsea Arts Club and London Sketch club.
