Description

A fine copy after Rubens' portrait of Elisabeth, also known as Isabel, of Bourbon, who was Queen of Spain and Portugal as the first spouse of King Philip IV and III. A label affixed to the reverse attributes this copy to the Belgian artist Léo Engels (1882 to 1952). Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. Unsigned. On canvas laid to board.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including some discolouration. The canvas has been laid to board. The painting has then been extended onto the surrounding board. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. Scuffs, stable cracking, and small losses to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
