Attrib. Kono Bairei - Late 19th Century Woodblock Birds And Blossoms

Description

A collage of woodblock prints attributed to the artist Kōno Bairei (1844–1895). Stems of blossoms from a different print have been cut out and stuck onto a print of two flying Japanese finches. The print is presented on a yellow silk ground in a smart dark wood frame with a burnished gilt inner window. Unsigned. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a watermark around the edge of the collage, likely from the glue used to adhere it to the silk backing. There is dirtying to the paper and some dirt has been trapped behind the glass. The frame is in good condition.
