Description

A bright and colour study of a female nude attributed to the French artist Jean Langlois. Likely completed from 1970 onward when Langlois adopted a colourful palette, abandoning his use of brown, neutral tones. Signed in pen to the lower edge. On wove laid to backing paper.

Condition

Overall the condition is good. There is some movement to the delicate medium and slight scuffing to the edges of the paper.

Artist Biography

Jean Langlois was born in Nancy, 1923. the started sketching when the was 16 years old and registered at The Beaux Arts School of Algiers in 1940 and later at the Arts Appliqués School in Paris. the joined the Free French Forces that fought in Germany in 1941. After the war the was nominated principal teacher at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Modernes in Paris where the worked during 44 years from 1947 to 1991.
