An impressive still life by Dutch artist Henri Frederic Boot (1877-1963). The composition features a plate of apples arranged on an ochre cloth beside a ceramic jug. Boot employs broad, impressionistic brushstrokes and a rich, dark palette. The work is signed to the upper left and is well presented in an ornate gilt frame. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age including discolouration and craquelure throughout. Faint impressions from the stretchers are visible. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. Stable cracking and scuffs to the frame.
