This beautifully executed interior study depicts a young child seated at a chalkboard, absorbed in creativity as he draws animals from a picture book. Wasse skilfully captures the young artist in-situ, with elements of the room meticulously painted in watercolour. A large wooden trunk, artist materials on shelf, and a large curtained window anchor the central figure. The work is well presented in a glazed burr maple frame, complete with the original signed artist label verso. Signed and dated in the lower left. On paper.
Condition
The condition is good for a picture of this age. There is some craquelure to areas of the painting where gum arabic has been used. The burr maple frame shows some signs of wear with rubbing to the edges of the frame and slight separation at the mitre joints. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.
