Arthur Suker was born in 1857 at Tranmere, Cheshire. He was the son of John Suker, a landscape paint and the brother of F.C. Newcombe and first cousin of W. Crane. By 1871 Suker is recorded as living with his large family in Birkenhead. He married Emily Tomlinson in 1881, in their early married life they appear to have moved around many times, living in Chester, Liverpool and Surrey, before settling in Cornwall by 1890. Arthur is listed in the 1891 Census as an 'Artist-Landscape paint'. He exhibited a few paintings at the RA in the late 19th century. By 1901 Suker had moved to Brixham and continued to live there until his death aged 85.
