Artist Biography

Arthur Perigal Jnr. RSA (1816-1884) was a Scottish painter, born in Edinburgh. He was primarily a landscape watercolourist of the Scottish School who conveyed very effectively the great beauty of Scotland's mountains. He was the son of Arthur Perigal Snr. (1784-1847) and probably his pupil. As well as Scotland, he also enjoyed painting landscapes on frequent visits to Italy and Switzerland. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Scottish Academy, of which he became an associate in 1841, an academician in 1868, and the treasurer in 1880. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy, London, from 1858 until his death.
