Description

This intricate watercolour depicts figures with baskets harvesting cockles from the shoreline. In the center of the scene a cart horse waits patiently to carry the produce back to town. Signed in pencil to the lower left. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. On wove.

Artist Biography

Painter, born in Huddersfield he lived and worked in Shrewsbury and also travelled in Wales and France. Noted for harbour and quayside scenes usually in North Wales he was married to the artist Edith Mary Dyas. A prolific painter he exhibited many works at the RCamA and also showed at the RA, ROI and in Manchester. Netherwood was vice-president of the Society of Yorkshire Artists and exhibited 115 paintings at the Royal Cambrian Academy. Both Kirklees Museums and Galleries and Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council hold examples of his work.
