This striking study of the Naples coast line by well-listed artist Antonio DeVity depicts ships sailing close to a bay. To the left, a rustic path leads under an arch towards a small town. Painted in an impressionist manner, the artist has used an impasto technique to create texture and movement within the composition. Unsigned. The studio stamp on the reverse suggests that this piece was completed in his Italian study near Naples later in his career. Well presented in and a swept cream flecked gilt frame with floral ornamentation. On canvas on stretchers.

Artist Biography

Antonio de Vity was born in Reggio-Calbria in southern Italy. the lived in Naples and later moved to Rome where the was taught by Giacomo Balla, creator of futurism. De Vity lived and worked in Paris, then returned to Naples, opening a studio and producing paintings of France and Italy for the remainder of his career. De Vity's works have won international awards and the is recognized for his bright colours and impressionist treatment of the streets and waterways of Paris and Venice.
