Anton Pickert - Late 19th Century Oil Rowing Boats on a Lake

Description

Several small rowing boats float upon a wide, placid lake in this sublime landscape by Anton Pickert (1876–1941). A church can be seen on a distant pine-covered hill, while craggy mountains rise beyond. The work is signed to the lower right and is well presented in a gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. There are two small canvas tear repairs, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Light wear to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
