The work of Stuttgart-born German painter Anton Gold (1914-1970) sits at the threshold of several artistic movements of the 20th century, with Fauvist influences and a Post-Impressionist core. With a life spanning the most tumultuous years of the past century, Gold's varied subjects capture the world in a stark yet colourful manner.
The collection includes portrait, still life and landscape scenes, with common themes of bare trees and faceless figures throughout. Many works are large in scale, with a gently vibrant palette that would suit a range of interior settings.
