Artist Biography
Born in 1961 in Kent, Annalise Firth has always been drawn to nature. Seeing Monet's Chrysanthemums for the first time sparked a fascination with the relationship between emotions and artistic subjects. Expressing how nature makes a person feel rather than trying to recreate a realistic replica has consequently become a frequent motif in her work. Later in life, after a nursing career in London, Firth completed an MA in Fine Art at the University of East London and developed her practice further. Her knowledge of figurative painting informs her floralscapes, from colour and concept to tone and form. Constantly inspired by the world around her, Firth paints from life in her home studio. She particularly admires artists Mark Rothko and Patrick Heron, whose work speaks to her in a way that she hopes her own works speak to others.
