The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and light foxing.

Collection Information

A charming portfolio of works from the Salter family of 225 Willesden Lane, London. The portfolio was dated 1879; some of the artworks are dated and most are initialed or signed. The collection features works signed by Anne G. Salter (b.1801), her sister, Emily K. Salter, and her daughter Annie Elizabeth Salter. The works share a family style and show picturesque scenes from around Switzerland, Italy and English towns such as Whitby and Lancashire. The mother, Anne, shows particular skill, with the collection featuring some unusual and jovial interior scenes with humorous animal encounters by her hand.

Artist Biography

The Salter family lived in London for the majority of the children's lives and then relocated to Truro, Cornwall, where Anne, the mother, continued to paint up until her death.
