Artist Biography
A major Norwegian painter and (most importantly) printmaker, Anne Breivik studied printmaking techniques at Atelier 17, Paris, under Stanley William Hayter. She began exhibiting her etchings and engravings on an international level in 1963. Today, museums that include examples of Breivik's art in their collections are the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Musee d'Art Moderne, Paris, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, University of Northumbria Gallery, England, and the National Galleries of Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
A leading contributor to Norway's arts community, Anne Breivik has served as Vice-Chairman of the Norwegian Cultural Council, beginning in 1977. Of even more importance, she founded the influential printmaking workshop, Atelier Nord, in 1968. Anne Breivik authored the fine book, Om Grafikk, which was published in Oslo in 1977.
