Angelica Kauffman - 18th Century Engraving The Judgement of Paris

Description

Engraving in an oval by Francesco Bartolozzi (1728-1815) from an original 1778 painting by Angelica Kauffman (1741-1807) entitled The Judgment of Paris. The scene depicts a tale from Greek mythology and accounts a contest between the three most beautiful goddesses, Aphrodite, Hera and Athena; the prize of a golden apple was presented to the fairest. The names of the artists and the title of the piece are present in typeset below the main image. Signed in plate. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. A 6cm tear to the lower central area. Other minor losses and scuffs to the page at the upper left side.
