André Dunoyer de Segonzac (1884–1974) was a painter and printmaker born in Boussy-St-Antoine, near Paris. His first submission to the Salon d'Automne was in 1908. He then went on to exhibit at the Salon des Indépendants in 1909, and continued to exhibit at both for many years after. He was conscripted in August 1914, during which time he made a series of drawings in the trenches. After the war he was introduced to etching which sparked a lifelong love affair with the medium.
By the end of his life he had produced more than 1600 prints. At the height of his career he won first prize at the Carnegie International Exhibition in 1933 and the main painting prize at the Venice Biennale in 1934. He was prolific as a painter and printmaker until the very end of his life. Segonzac died at age 90 in 1974.
