Allan Laycock is a commercial designer and painter, born in Sutton-in-Craven, Yorkshire. Laycock attended Keighley School of Art, 1944–46 and again after National Service 1948–49, then he furthered his studies at Sheffield College of Art, 1949–50. Allan Laycock has exhibited in London and at various provincial centres and is an enthusiastic member of Keighley Art Club, Norwich Art Circle and the Norwich Twenty Group in that city. In 1974, he was appointed Lecturer in Graphic Design in the Faculty of Vocational Studies at Gloucester College of Art. He is primarily a landscape artist and paints all his landscapes 'in situ' at one sitting - never in a studio - and uses acrylics as his medium. Laycock has exhibited recently all over the West Country from Malvern to Exeter, from Bristol and Bath to Broadway. Much of his current work is done in the Cotswolds with excursions further afield. He is a Member of innumerable art societies and his work can be found in private and public collections in the UK, Finland, Germany, Canada, the USA, Alaska, Denmark, Australia and South Africa. A member of the Fosseway Artists and the Royal West of England Academy, he has also been part of the Council of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours.
