Artist Biography
Alfred John Billinghurst was a painter, born in Blackheath, London. Following education in England, Germany and Switzerland, he studied at the Slade School, London, from 1899 to 1902, at Goldsmiths' London, at the Académie Julian in Paris, and at the École des Beaux-Arts in 1903. He was a prolific exhibitor, showing at the RA, RI, RBA and at the Paris Salon. He was a member of the Ridley Art Club and lived in East Sheen, south-west London. Examples of his work are held by Plymouth Art Gallery.
