Alfred Burgess Sharrocks studied at Stockport School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. His work is exhibited regularly at the Royal Cambrian Academy and painted a great many landscapes of the Welsh hillsides. Sharrocks is probably best known for his book-covers and illustrations for the Secret Seven series by Enid Blyton. He also illustrated educational books about the natural world, especially in annuals. He spent much of his life in Bangor, North Wales and became associate member of the RCA in 1952 and full member in 1953. He was president of the RCA in 1962.
