Alexandre Marcette (1853-1929) was a Belgian Impressionist painter of seascapes and landscapes. He received his initial artistic training with his father Henri Marcette (1824-1890), who was also an artist, before studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. He was a member of L'Essor, and exhibited frequently across Europe. Marcette was much praised by art critics for his expressive use of colour and his studies of varying light patterns. Indeed, his skies show a Turneresque captivation with swathing clouds and effects of light.
