A picturesque scene depicting a rowing boat on a loch in the Scottish Highlands. Presented glazed in a wash line mount and a distressed gilt-effect wooden frame. Signed to the lower-right edge. The date and name of the artist are inscribed in graphite to the lower-left edge of the mount. On wove.

Artist Biography

Alexander Leggett (1828-1884) was a Scottish painter of rustic and coastal scenes. He exhibited once at the Royal Academy in 1860 with a painting titled 'Study of a Fisher Girl on the East Coast of Scotland', and once at the Society of British Artists in 1870.
