An atmospheric coastal scene by Alexander Lawson (act.1890-1903). As dusk falls, the last golden light of evening reflects across the water, where a small rowing boat has been moored. A cluster of buildings can be seen further along the bank, and rolling hills span the distant coastline. Signed to the lower left. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration, dirtying, and craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals that the artwork has undergone restorative work, including a canvas tear repair and areas of overpainting. Wear around the edges of the canvas, resulting in some losses to the paint. Faint impressions from the stretchers are visible. Overall the condition remains good.
