Alec Wiles

Alec Wiles (1924-2021) was a sculptor, marine artist, and a landscape and portrait painter. He studied at Southampton School of Art from 1937-39. He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Royal Society of British Artists, and Society of Graphic Artists.

Wiles enjoys a secure reputation amongst Cornwall's leading artists, his works having been shown in all of Cornwall's prestigious galleries, in Newlyn, as well as being a member of the Newquay Society of Artists. His paintings are especially noted for their diversity of subject matter, but equally for their unusual compositional viewpoints, whilst his freely drawn charcoal studies at the male and female nude show his mastery of good draughtsmanship. Wiles also enjoys a separate reputation for his small sculptures, mainly of the female and male torso, cast in bronze and resin bronze.
