Artist Biography

Albert Masri was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1927, and received part of his early schooling at a Jesuit institution as well as the French Lycée in Cairo. Initially, he pursued medical studies before fully turning to the arts. Masri eventually emigrated to France, settling in the commune of Montferrier-sur-Lez in the south of the country. He is perhaps best known for his pastels, but his oeuvre spans multiple media, including painting and printmaking. Throughout his career he depicted Mediterranean landscapes, still lifes and the human figure, often rendered in stylised figurative forms. Albert Masri passed away in 2020 in France, leaving behind a body of work marked by a careful technique and unique stylisation.
