Description

A delightful 18th-century oil after the Dutch Golden Age artist Paulus Potter (1625–1654). The artwork depicts a herd of animals resting beside a tree in golden light. Potter was a pioneer in the painting of landscapes with animals, making them the focus of the painting rather than a background element. This particularly fine copy is presented in an ornate frame with shell ornaments to the centre and scrolling acanthus. On canvas.

Condition

The condition is typical for a painting of this age, including some discolouration to the varnish, fine craquelure and very light abrasions to the surface. The canvas has been relined. The frame shows signs of wear consistent with age, including some stable cracking, however overall the frame is in good condition.
