A fine mezzotint after a painting by the Danish artist Niels Moeller Lund (1863-1916), depicting a rushing river with rocky falls, and a copse of trees in the background. Monogrammed 'NML' in the plate, and later inscribed 'Nile Lund' below in graphite. Monogrammed in Plate.On chine-collé.

Condition

In good condition overall. There are some minor stains around the edges of the print, and very light foxing.

Artist Biography

Niels Moeller Lund (1863-1916) was a painter and etcher born in Fåborg, Denmark who at the age of 4 moved with his family to Newcastle on Tyne. He studied art in Newcastle on Tyne, at St. John's Wood School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools in London, and at the Académie Julian in Paris. Naturalised as a British citizen in 1894 Lund exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Hibernian Academy, Ridley Art Club and at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.

He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1896, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1897 and an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 1915. Lund died in Hampstead, London. Paintings by Lund are held in the collections of the City of London Corporation, Laing Art Gallery and Shipley Art Gallery. He died in Hampstead, London.
